Complete Royal and Ali'i Genealogies

English • The genealogical document indicates the ali'i blood relations of Libby Komoika'ehuehu (wife of ke ali'i Robert Hoapili Baker II), Bernicia Ka'iliponi Lane (wife of ke ali'i Robert Hoapili Baker III), the close blood relations that the Hoapili Baker Family has to the Tahitian royal dynasty, as well as the relation to their Kawananakoa cousins, was orignally presented on a very wide scroll parchment. The work is digitized into five segments, "Na Mo'okuauhau O 'Ohana Hoapili Baker – Parts I - V" (in Hawaiian, "The Genealogies of the Hoapili Baker Family"). Effective October 8, 2021, the official, legal genealogical document in five segments is on U.S. Government State of Hawai'i public record in the department of the Bureau of Conveyances.

The segment Part I of the official genealogy chart is extracted from the comprehensive and detailed research and compiliation of the multiple ali'i and royal genealogies of the Hoapili Baker 'Ohana of Hawai'i by well-respected Hawaiian historical expert and genealogist Douglas Po'oloa Tolentino.

Part I of the wide chart focuses on the Hoapili Baker 'Ohana's blood relation to the family of the last Sovereign Dynasty of the Kingdom of Hawai'i, the Kalākaua Dynasty––King David Kalākaua, Prince William Pitt Leleiohoku, Queen Lydia Lilu'okalani and Princess Miriam Likelike.

Through the lineage of Kaumeheiwa, King of Kaua'i, and his half-brother, High Ali'i and Prince Keawepoepoe from their common father, King Lonoikahaupu, and through the sons of Keawepoepoe, the High Ali'i known as the "royal twins", Kame'eiamoku and Kamanawa, and their sons High Ali'i Aikanaka and High Ali'i Kapa'akea, the Royal Hoapili Baker Family have a proven, sacred blood relation to Na Lani 'Eha–the four royal siblings comprising the last sovereign dynasty of the unified Kingdom of Hawai'i–King David Kalākaua, Prince William Pitt Leleiohoku II, Queen Lydia Lili'uokalani and Princess Mariam Likelike, and likewise, a relation by blood to the last Crown Heir to the active throne of the Kingdom of Hawai'i, the Crown Princess Victoria Ka'iulani, daughter of Princess Miriam Likelike, appointed as Crown Heir by her blood uncle, King David Kalākaua.

Ke ali'i Colonel Robert Hoapili Baker, a Prince from birth, was cousin by blood to King David Kalākaua, assumed his appointed position of primary royal aide-de-camp of the King. After the last Crown Heir of Hawai'i, Princess Victoria Ka'iulani, ke ali'i Robert Hoapili Baker is the closest in blood relation to King Kalākaua and his sister Queen Lili'uokalani.

Part II of the wide, detailed chart focuses on the Hoapili Baker 'Ohana's blood relation to their royal Kawananakoa cousins, with whom they share direct descendance from the Royal Court of Queen Kamakahelei, and the Kings and Queens of Kaua'i and Ni'ihau.

Ikekele'aiku and Kaumuali'i were half-brothers through their Royal mother in common, Queen Regnant Kamakahelei of Kaua'i and Ni'ihau. From his birth in 1847, the eldest child and son of the Royal Prince Ikekele'aiku and High Ali'i Malie Napu'upahoehoe, Robert Hoapili, held the disctinction of Prince. In his royal ceremonies and obituaries, Robert Hoapili Baker is referred to as an Heir of Island Sovereigns, firstly, due to his proven blood relation to the last sovereign dynasty–the dynasty of King Kalākaua and his sister, Queen Lili'uokalani–and secondly to his family's blood relation to both the Kamakahelei and Kamehameha royal dynasties.

The three childen of High Ali'i David Kahalepouli Pi'ikoi and High Ali'i Kinoiki Kekaulike II, High Ali'i David Kawananakoa, High Ali'i Edward Keli'iahonui and High Ali'i Jonah Kalanianaole, were the nephews of the Queen Consort Kapi'olani–adopted by the Queen Consort and her sister, High Ali'i Po'omokailani–and were given the title of Prince in the distinction of H.H. by their uncle by marriage, King Kalākaua. The Crown Heir was the king's sister, the Crown Princess Lydia Lili'u (who became Queen Lili'uokalani), and then the king's niece by blood followed as Crown Heir, the Crown Princess Victoria Ka'iulani, appointed by her uncle the king. The Princess Victoria Ka'iulani was the Crown Heir at the time of the annexation of the Kingdom of Hawai'i.

Part III of the detailed table focuses on one of the various bloodlines that the Royal Hoapili Baker Family has with the Kamehameha bloodline, through their Ali'i cousins, the Mersebergs. This segment also elucidates the true biological father of Kamehameha I.

Through the marriage of High Ali’i Emma Kamakanoanoa Merseberg and Prince Robert Hoapili Baker I, the Royal Hoapili Baker ’ohana also has another lineage of blood relation to the first king of the Kamehameha bloodline of the First Royal Dynasty of the unified Kingdom of Hawai’i. The Hoapili Baker ’ohana are related to all five of the kings of the Kamehameha Dynasty; through the House of Moana (kane) they are related to King Kamehameha VI and V.

Through the High Ali’i Ka’uauanui-a-Mahi, the royal Hoapili Baker and their ali’i Merseberg cousins descend from the High Ali’i of Kohala and the Houses of Nuhi, Mahi and Keawe. Paiea Kamehameha came from Kohala on the island of Hawai’i.

This chart indicates the ali’i offspring that Princess Kalanikauleleaiwi of Hawai’i island (who later became Queen of Hawai’i island) bore with two of her four husbands (kings and one High Ali’i), who comprise the blood relations of the contemporary Hoapili Baker ’ohana: Ka’uauanui-a-Mahi and Kaulahea-a-moku. Her brother and husband, Keawe Nui-a-Umi is also a blood ancestor. The son she bore with her husband King Lonoikahaupu of Kaua’i, the High Ali’i and Prince Keawepoepoe, is a blood ancestor as indicated on the Complete Ali’i and Royal Genealogies – Part I.

The biological father of King Kamehameha I was Kahekili II, King of Maui, who was the brother of Kamehameha’s maternal grandmother, the Princess of Maui, Kekelakekeokalani.

Part IV of the detailed table focuses on the various bloodlines that the Royal and Alii Hoapili Baker Family have with their Lane Family, as well as that of the John Papa Ī'ī and Komoika'ehu'ehu Families.

Through the ali'i grandmother Elizabeth 'Libby' Kahalewehi Komoika'ehu'ehu, the Royal and Ali'i Hoapili Baker Family has blood relation to the Ali'i House of Luluka, and thus, it also descends from the pre-unification ali'i Luahine line of King Keakealani-kane of the island of Hawai'i.

Through the ali'i grandmother Bernicia Ka'iliponi Lane, wife of High Ali'i Robert Hoapili Baker II, the Royal and Ali'i Hoapili Baker Family descend directly from High Ali'i Nuhi-kukanaloa of Kealia Kona, learned priest, friend and advisor of King Kamehameha the Great, and keeper of his personal wa'a peleleu (double hulled war canoe). He was the ali'i associate on a Kingdom Land Board and personal friend of King Kamehameha V and John Papa Ī'i.

High Ali'i John Papa Ī'ī, Hawaiian Kingdom Supreme Court Justice and Land Commisioner, was the half-brother of Komoika'ehu'ehu by their mother in common, Wanao'a. Both, in turn, married Maria Kamaunauikea Kapuahi. Maria's daughter with Luahine descendant Komoika'ehu'ehu was Elizabeth 'Libby' Lokai Kahalewehi, who became the wife of High Ali'i Robert Hoapili Baker II, and grandmother to the seventeen keiki ali'i siblings of High Ali'i Robert Hoapili Baker III, the State of Hawai'i Superintendant of th Board of Health. Maria's daughter with John Papa Ī'ī was Irene Ha'alou, after whose two sons–George Ī'ī and Francis Ī'ī–two children of Robert Hoapili Baker III and Bernicia Ka'iliponi Lane were named.

Wanao'a had chosen to name her son Ī'ī after her cousin Papa Ī'ī, who was a medical kahuna (practitioner or expert) to the Kamehameha kings. The name Ī'ī originates from the vocalizations that Kamehameha II made while playing with his friend as a toddler.

High Ali'i Robert Hoapili Baker II and 'Libby' Komoika'ehu'ehu lived with their children on the John Papa Ī'ī estate.

It is also known that the Royal and Ali'i Hoapili Baker Family maintains a familial link to the Royal Tamatoa line of Tahiti through the step-brother (and first cousin) to Prince Robert Hoapili Baker I, John Tamatoa Baker, of father Captain Adam C. Baker.

Le nom Ī'ī provient des vocalisations que Kamehameha II faisait en jouant avec son ami quand il était tout-petit.
